Frequently Asked Questions

Here you can find some frequently asked questions about GaiaTribe, Gaianism and various other topics. Don't see your question? Feel free to contact us.

What is Gaia?

Named after the goddess in Classical Greek mythology, the concept of Gaia is based on the James Lovelock hypothesis of the same name that was first published in 1979. The theory states that the Earth (Gaia) is a self-regulating organism in its own right. GaiaTribe blends both of these definitions together: the Earth is a self-regulating organism that is worthy of reverence and respect - similar to that which one might show to a goddess.

What is Gaianism?

Gaianism is the belief in Gaia. It is the belief that Gaia (sometimes referred to as Mother) is the creator and custodian of all life on Earth, and, as part of that life on Earth, humans are intrinsic to nature, not separate from it. However, it should be noted that GaiaTribe is not a religious website. GaiaTribe was not created to ostracise any group and was built on the understanding that care and compassion for the planet and its people is a value anyone can support, regardless of faith. Whilst the more spiritual aspects of respect for Gaia may be discussed in certain blog posts, these must be viewed solely as the experiences of the author, and read at the reader's own discretion.

Is GaiaTribe a charity/non-profit?

No. GaiaTribe is a blog site designed to encourage care and compassion for the planet. It does not employ staff, make money or receive funding of any kind, and so does not financially support or endorse any charities, non-profits or causes.
